ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը մեծ մամուլի ասուլիսի ժամանակ հայտարարել է, որ երբ Սու-24-ը խոցվեց, վստահ էր, որ դա տեղի ունեցավ առանց թուրքական իշխանության հրամանի, սակայն դեսպանի սպանությունից հետո փոխել է կարծիքը:    

  «Ես թերահավատորեն էի մոտենում այն խոսքերին, որ մեր ինքնաթիռը խոցել են թուրքական ղեկավարության հրամանով, սակայն այժմ, դեսպանի սպանությունից հետո, սկսել եմ հավատալ, որ ամեն ինչ հնարավոր է»,-ասել է Պուտինը` պատասխանելով «Սպուտնիկ Թուրքիա»-ի թղթակցի հարցին: 

  «Դա ողբերգություն էր (դեսպանի սպանությունը), որը, առաջին հերթին, մահափորձ էր Ռուսաստանի վրա, և, անկասկած, ռուս-թուրքական հարաբերությունների վրա»,-նշել է Պուտինը:
