Արա Այվազյանի հրաժարականը որքան հասունացած էր, նույնքան էլ՝ անակնկալ։ ԱԳՆ աղբյուրների փոխանցմամբ, Այվազյանը որոշել է մինչեւ ընտրությունները դիմում չներկայացնել, սակայն գործընթացն արագացել է, եւ նա որոշել է 20 օր չսպասել, քանի որ ԱԳՆ-ն կամա, թե ակամա խաղից դուրս է մղվել եւ ոչ հայանպաստ քայլերի մասնակից դարձել։

ԱԽ նիստում Փաշինյանի արած առաջարկը ԵԱՀԿ Մինսկի խմբին՝ սահմանին միջազգային դիտորդներ տեղակայելու, Ռուսաստանին մղել է ակտիվ գործողությունների։ Եվ ՌԴ-ն իրավիճակը վերցրել է իր «կոնտրոլի» տակ՝ դիմելով ուժային մեթոդի։ Ռուսական կողմն անհանգստություն ունի, որ Հայաստանում այլ խաղաղապահներ կտեղակայվեն։ Պատահական չէ, որ Այվազյանի հրաժարականը հաջորդեց Վաղարշակ Հարությունյանի մոսկովյան այցին։ Թե ինչ հանձնարարականներ է ստացել նա Մոսկվայում, դեռ պարզ չէ, սակայն Գեղարքունիքի սահմաններին վերջին օրերին ռուս խաղաղապահներ են նկատվում։
