Կոլորադոյի համալսարանի բժշկական դպրոցի գիտնականները կապ են գտել մարդու աչքի գույնի եւ հիվանդություններին հակվածության միջեւ:

Ինչպես հայտնում է Freundin պարբերականը, հետազոտությունը ցույց է տվել, որ մուգ դարչնագույն եւ սեւ աչքեր ունեցող մարդիկ հակված են արյան, շնչառության եւ նյութափոխանակության հետ կապված խնդիրներին: Ընդ որում, նման աչքի գույն ունեցող մարդկանց մոտ ցածր է մաշկի կամ աչքերի քաղցկեղի առաջացման ռիսկը, քանի որ նրանց աչքերն ավելի լավ են պաշտպանված ուլտրամանուշակագույն ճառագայթների վնասակար ազդեցությունից: Բացի այդ, նման մարդիկ սովորաբար ունեն ցածր ցավային շեմ:

Կանաչ գույնի աչքեր ունեցող մարդիկ, հակառակը, ունեն բարձր ցավային շեմ: Ընդ որում, դեպրեսիայի հետ նրանք գրեթե չեն բախվում:
