Վաղ տարիքում մազերի ճերմակելու մի քանի պատճառ կա։ Այդ գործընթացի վրա մի շարք գործոններ կարող են ազդել։

1․ Ժառանգականություն։ Հաճախ շատերի մոտ ճերմակ մազեր առաջանում են այն նույն տարիքում, ինչ ծնողների։ Դա նաև կախված է մազերի բնական գույնից՝ շիկահերներն ու կարմրահերներն ավելի վաղ են ճերմակում։

2․ Մազերի ճերմակելու պատճառ է նաև ի ծնե կամ ժամանակի ընթացքում տարած հիվանդությունները։

Մազերի վաղաժամ ճերմակելը կարող է նաև մի շարք հիվանդությունների նախանշան լինել։

3․ Սթրեսը և թույլ նյարդային համակարգը ևս կարող են մազերը ճերմակելու պատճառ դառնալ։

4․ Մազերը կարող են ճերմակել նաև սպիտակուցի անբավարար քանակությամբ սնունդ օգտագործելու հետևանքով։
