Գիտնականները պարզել են, թե ինչու են մարդիկ քնի մեջ խոսում: Մասնագետների խոսքով՝ ամենից հաճախ դա անում են երեխաները: Պատճառն այն է, որ նրանք օրվա ընթացքում բազմաթիվ վառ զգացողություններ են ապրում, իսկ հետո վերարտադրում քնի մեջ:

Ինչ վերաբերում է մեծահասակներին. նրանք ավելի քիչ են խոսում քնի մեջ: Մասնագետները գիշերային խոսակցությունների երկու տեսակ են առանձնացնում: Երբեմն հնարավոր է հասկանալի խոսք լսել, ինչը բնորոշ է քնի ոչ խորը փուլին: Իսկ կցկտուր եւ անհասկանալի խոսքն առաջանում է, երբ մարդը խորը քնած է:

Սակայն, ըստ Informing-ի, առանձին դեպքերում դա կարող է վկայել որոշակի խնդիրների մասին, մասնավորապես՝ էպիլեպսիայի առաջացման վտանգի:
