Ամերիկացի գիտնականները հայտնաբերել են, որ խնձորը բացի մեծ քանակությամբ վիտամիններ և միկրոէլեմենտներ պարունակելուց, ևս մի քանի օգտակար հատկություններ ունի:

Հետազոտությունները ցույց են տվել, որ խնձորը լավ է ազդում սրտի և անոթների վրա: Պարբերաբար խնձոր ուտելը նվազեցնում է արյան մեջ խոլեստերինի մակարդակը և սրտանոթայաին համակարգի տարբեր հիվանդությունների ի հայտ գալը:

Գիտնականները ընդգծում են, որ ներկայում խոլեստերինը սրտանոթների հիվանդությունների առաջացման գլխավոր պատճառն է: Մեղավորը իհարկե սննդակարգ է: Մարդիկ շատ են օգտագործում ճարպերով հարուստ սնունդ, որը արյան մեջ բարձրացնում է խոլեստերինի մակարդակը:
