Բենզինային շարժիչով բեռնատարներն առաջին անգամ թողարկվեցին 1900-ական թվականներին (1914-1918), դրանք լայնորեն օգտագործվում էին բեռնափոխադրության համար։
1920-ական թվականներին ստեղծվեցին հուսալի և հզոր դիզելային շարժիչեր, որոնք բեռնատարներում են մինչ օրս։
