«Հրապարակ» թերթը գրում է․ «Փակ, գաղտնի քվեարկության արդյունքում ԵՊՀ հոգաբարձուների խորհուրդը պատմական գիտությունների դոկտոր Հովհաննես Հովհաննիսյանին երեկ 5 տարի ժամկետով ընտրեց ԵՊՀ ռեկտոր։ Նա առաջադրված միակ թեկնածուն էր: Մայր բուհից տեղեկացանք, որ ԵՊՀ պրոֆեսորադասախոսական կազմը դժգոհ է մրցույթից եւ դրա արդյունքներից, որն իրականում մրցույթ էլ չէր, այլ՝ վերեւից հրահանգված վերանշանակում: ԵՊՀ-ում կարծում են, որ Հովհաննիսյանը քանդում է մայր բուհը, որը հիմա հետընթաց է ապրում:

Ի դեպ, չնայած նրան, որ Հովհաննիսյանը մրցակից չուներ, սակայն փակ, գաղտնի քվեարկության արդյունքները միանշանակ չեն եղել․ 20 հոգանոց հոգաբարձուների խորհրդից 19 հոգի է մասնակցել քվեարկությանը, 14-ը կողմ է քվեարկել, 3-ը՝ դեմ, 2 քվեաթերթիկ անվավեր է եղել։ 20 անդամից 5-ը հիմնադրամի առաջադրած անդամներն են, 5-ը՝ կառավարության, 5-ը՝ պրոֆեսորադասախոսական կազմի, իսկ մյուս 5-ը՝ ուսանողների կողմից ընտրված։ Հովհաննիսյանը խիստ զայրացել է դեմ եւ անվավեր քվեներից եւ ԵՊՀ-ում վհուկների որս է սկսել` հանձնարարել է ճշտել, թե ովքեր են իրեն «չուզողները»։ «Կասկածյալներն» ուսանողներն են»:
