ԱՄՆ վարչակազմի ղեկավար Դոնալդ Թրամփը չի բացառել, որ ԱՄՆ-ը վաղ թե ուշ կվերսկսի բանակցություններն Իրանի հետ։ Այս դիրքորոշումը նա հայտնել է լրագրողների հետ զրույցում։

«Հնարավոր է՝ այս կամ այն պահին։ Բայց հիմա, իմ կարծիքով, իրավիճակը լավ է»,- ասել է Թրամփը՝ պատասխանելով Թեհրանի հետ բանակցությունները վերսկսելու հնարավորության մասին հարցին։ Նա կրկին հայտարարել է, որ «Իրանը չպետք է միջուկային զենք ունենա»։ Բացի այդ, Թրամփը պնդել է, որ ԱՄՆ-ը «ամբողջությամբ վերահսկում է Հորմուզի] նեղուցը»։

Օգոստոսի 18-ին Թրամփը Truth Social-ում գրել էր, որ ԱՄՆ-ը Իրանի հետ բանակցություններ չի վարում և չի ծրագրում դրանք։
