Իրանը երկու բալիստիկ հրթիռ է արձակել Դիեգո Գարսիա կղզում ԱՄՆ-ի և Մեծ Բրիտանիայի միացյալ բազայի ուղղությամբ, գրել է «The Wall Street Journal»-ը։

Հրթիռներից մեկը խոցվել է SM-3 ինտերսեպտորով։ Յուրաքանչյուր SM-3 արժե ավելի քան 20 միլիոն դոլար։ ԱՄՆ-ն կարող է տարեկան արտադրել այս մոդելից ընդամենը մոտ 70 հատ։

Երկրորդ հրթիռը չի հասել իր նպատակին, գրել է թերթը՝ հղում անելով ԱՄՆ պաշտոնյաների։

Իրանից մոտավորապես 4000 կիլոմետր հեռավորության վրա տեղակայված Դիեգո Գարսիայի վրա Իրանի հարձակումը նշանավորում է Թեհրանի կողմից ԱՄՆ շահերին սպառնալու նշանակալի փորձ Մերձավոր Արևելքից շատ ավելի հեռու։ Ենթադրվում է, որ իրանական հրթիռների հեռահարությունը կարող է ավելի մեծ լինել, քան նախկինում Վաշինգտոնում կարծում էին։
