The Sound of Artsakh in the USA

ՄՇԱԿՈՒՅԹ

On 18 October 2025, the pianist of the “Born in Artsakh” programme and scholarship recipient of the “Dialog” organisation, Edward Sargsyan, gave his first concert in the USA — in the cultural city of Boston.

The concert was organised at the initiative of the "Music for the Future" Foundation and the Friends of Armenian Culture Society (FACS).

In the hall of the Scottish Rite Museum & Library, through Edward Sargsyan’s sounds the audience connected with the inner world of a talented musician from Artsakh.

The concert opened with welcome remarks by FACS Vice-President Armine Mirzabekian and "Music for the Future" Foundation Director Anna Ter-Homakimian. They greeted the audience and highlighted the importance of supporting young talent and ensuring their sustained education.

Remarkably, Armenian-American composer Arno Melik-Onian performed his own piano work In Memory of Artsakh. The music became a bridge between Artsakh and the world — a reminder that culture can preserve what sometimes seems lost.

A special guest of the evening was violinist/violist Ara Gregoryan, Head of the String & Piano Chamber Music Department at the New England Conservatory. In his address he emphasised the opportunity such platforms provide to reveal Armenian talent through culture, as well as the significant role of musical education and support for young creators.

Edward Sargsyan performed Frédéric Chopin’s Scherzo No. 3.

During his educational journey in the USA, he took a master-class with the renowned professor Lilit Karapetyan-Shugaryan.

As part of the USA educational tour, Edward — among the youth of the Music for the Future Foundation — also performed for the pupils of the Sourp Stepanos Armenian Elementary School. In interaction with the students, he expressed that his goal is to use his music to tell the world about Artsakh and his roots.

Visits were organised to the New England Conservatory, as well as to Boston’s museums and sights, and there was a special opportunity to attend a concert of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Boston Symphony Hall.

Edward Sargsyan’s first American concert was not only a personal achievement but also a symbolic step in the ongoing work of the “Born in Artsakh” programme. The presence of talented young people from Artsakh on international stages demonstrates that the Artsakh identity, culture and creative spirit continue to live on through the new generation.

The “Born in Artsakh” programme has become the bridge through which the sound of Artsakh can be heard in every corner of the world.
