EMSC-ի տվյալներով՝ երկրաշարժը տեղի է ունեցել UTC-ի ժամանակով ժամը 21:37-ին Իրանի Գորգան քաղաքից 46 կիլոմետր հեռավորության վրա, որի բնակչությունը կազմում է ավելի քան 244 հազար մարդ:

Ավելի ուշ սեյսմոլոգները երկրաշարժի ուժգնությունն իջեցրել են մինչև 5.4:
