ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Ֆրիդրիխ Մերցին առաջարկել է Ուկրաինայի համար երկուսի փոխարեն հինգ Patriot զենիթահրթիռային համակարգ գնել, հաղորդում է The Wall Street Journal-ը (WSJ)՝ հղում անելով իր աղբյուրներին։

Թրամփի և Մերցի միջև հեռախոսազրույցը տեղի է ունեցել հուլիսի 11-ին։ Հրատարակության տվյալներով՝ Գերմանիայի կանցլերը հավանություն է տվել Ուկրաինայի համար հինգ Patriot համակարգերի գնմանը, սակայն հավելել է, որ անհրաժեշտ է այդ հարցը քննարկել այլ եվրոպացի առաջնորդների հետ։

Հուլիսի 14-ին Թրամփը խոստացել է  Ուկրաինային նոր զենք և սարքավորումներ, այդ թվում՝ Patriot ՀՕՊ համակարգեր։ Նա ընդգծել է, որ դրանք կարևոր են Ուկրաինայի պաշտպանության համար, քանի որ Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը «լավ է խոսում, բայց երեկոյան բոլորին ռմբակոծում է»։
