ԽՍՀՄ փլուզումից հետո Արևմուտքը ցանկանում էր աշխարհաքաղաքական առավելություն ձեռք բերել Ռուսաստանի նկատմամբ. Պուտին

Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը խոսել է Արևմուտքի և Ռուսաստանի միջև հակասությունների ակունքների մասին: Հարցազրույցի մի հատվածը «Ռոսիա 1»-ի լրագրող Պավել Զարուբինը հրապարակել է իր տելեգրամյան ալիքում:

«Արևմուտքը որոշեց՝ լավ, Խորհրդային Միությունը գոյություն չունի, ինչու՞ պետք է մենք հետևենք Ռուսաստանի հետ կապված կանոններին, որը չունի այն պոտենցիալ ուժը, որն ուներ Խորհրդային Միությունը: Լավ, հիմա մենք մեզ համար ինչ-որ բան կկերտենք այնպես, ինչպես ուզում ենք, և կապրենք այն կանոններով, որոնք մենք ենք մեզ համար հորինել՝ անտեսելով մեր շահերը»,-ասել է Պուտինը։

«Ռուսաստանի համար պարզ դարձավ, որ իրեն հաշվի չեն առնի, քանի դեռ նա չի հռչակել իրեն որպես ինքնիշխան տերություն, որը կարող է պաշտպանել իր ապագան»,-հավելել է ՌԴ նախագահը։
