Պսակադրության պատրաստվող տղամարդն ու օրիորդը պետք է լինեն մկրտված և դրոշմված Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցում: Հայ Առաքելական եկեղեցու որևէ հետևորդի պսակադրությունն այլադավանի կամ այլակրոնի հետ թույլատրելի է միայն Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցու դավանանքն ընդունելու և անդամ դառնալու պայմանով:

Եկեղեցու սահմանած կարգի համաձայն Պսակի խորհրդի համար անհրաժեշտ է նաև չափահասությունը` մարմնապես ու հոգեպես առողջ սերունդ ունենալու համար: Հարսն ու փեսան պետք է լինեն չափահաս և ցանկալի է, որ տարիքային մեծ տարբերություն չունենան:
Չափազանց կարևոր է նաև արյունակցական մոտ կապի բացակայությունը: Պսակվողները պետք է առնվազն յոթը պորտով բաժանված լինեն միմյանցից (որդին հոր հարաբերությամբ մեկ պորտ է, թոռը` երկու): 
Մկրտության նույն կնքահոր երկու սանիկները չէին կարող ամուսանալ: Չեն կարող ամուսնանալ նաև որդեգիրն ու որդեգրվածը:
