Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիեւը Թուրքիայում Իգդիր-Նախիջևան գազատարի բացման արարողության ժամանակ հայտարարել է, թե իբր հայկական Նախիջևանը «հնագույն ադրբեջանական հող է, որն ավելի քան մեկ դար անջատված է Ադրբեջանի հիմնական մասից»։

Նա նաև ավելի հեռուն է գնացել՝ աղավաղելով պատմական փաստերը և պնդելով, թե իբր խորհրդային կառավարությունը 1920 թվականին ՀՀ Սյունիքի մարզն «անջատել է Ադրբեջանից և միացրել Հայաստանին»։

«Այսպիսով, խզվել է ցամաքային կապը Ադրբեջանի հիմնական մասի և նրա անբաժանելի մասի՝ Նախիջևանի միջև։

Ավելի քան մեկ դար շարունակվող այս անարդարությունը խիստ բացասաբար է անդրադարձել Նախիջեւանում ապրող մեր հայրենակիցների կյանքի վրա»,– հայտարարել է Ադրբեջանի բռանպետը՝ մեղադրելով հայկական կողմին, թե Արցախյան ազատամարտի ժամանակ Հայաստանն, իբր, փորձել է գրավել Նախիջևանը։
