ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը հարգանքով է վերաբերվում Ռուսաստանի առաջնորդ Վլադիմիր Պուտինին՝ 2018 թվականին նրա հետ հանդիպումից ի վեր։ Այս մասին գրում է The Wall Street Journal-ը (WSJ)՝ վկայակոչելով Թրամփի նախկին խորհրդականներին եւ այլ աղբյուրների, փոխանցում է ՏԱՍՍ–ը։

ԱՄՆ նախկին բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյայի խոսքերով՝ Թրամփը հիանում է Պուտինով՝ որպես ուժեղ առաջնորդ, որը «լիովին վերահսկում է երկիրը»:

Թրամփի ազգային անվտանգության հարցերով նախկին խորհրդական Ջոն Բոլթոնը թերթին ասել է, որ հանրապետականի առաջին ժամկետի ընթացքում իր թիմը փորձել է համոզել նրան ավելի թերահավատորեն վերաբերվել Պուտինին, սակայն դա չի հաջողվել։ «Նա [Թրամփը] կարծում է, որ ինքը և Պուտինը ընկերներ են»,- հավելել է Բոլթոնը։
