Ցնցումները զգացել են Մակարենկո միկրոշրջանի բնակիչները, և այդ մասին հայտնել են փրկարարներին։ 

Տարեսկզբին Սոչիում մի շարք ստորգետնյա ցնցումներ են տեղի ունեցել, որոնց առաջացման պատճառը եղել է Կովկասում երիտասարդ լեռների աճը, ՌԻԱ Նովոստիին բացատրել է քաղաքի սեյսմոլոգիական կայանի ղեկավար Ելենա Կարպովիչը։
