Այսօր Կոլումբոսի օրվա կապակցությամբ ԱՄՆ դեսպանատունը փակ կլինի: 

Այսօր ԱՄՆ-ում նշում են Կոլումբոսի օրը: 1492թ. հոկտեմբերի 12-ին ծովագնաց Քրիստափոր Կոլումբոսը իջել է Նոր աշխարհում: Թեև ամերիկյան մյուս երկրների մեծ մասում Կոլումբոսի օրը նշվում է հոկտեմբերի 12-ին, ԱՄՆ-ում այն նշվում է հոկտեմբերի երկրորդ երկուշաբթին:

ԱՄՆ-ում առաջին անգամ զանգվածաբար այս տոնը նշել են 1792թ.՝ Ամերիկայի հայտնագործման 300-ամյակի առթիվ:

Կոլումբոսի օրը 1937-ին պաշտոնապես ճանաչվել է ազգային տոն նախագահ Ֆրանկլին Ռուզվելտի կողմից: 1971-ից հետո այս տոնը, Կոնգրեսի որոշմամբ, նշվում է հոկտեմբերի երկրորդ երկուշաբթի օրը:
