Ռուս խաղաղապահների արձագանքից է կախված լինելու ապագա ձևաչափը և, ընդհանուր առմամբ, ՌԴ ներկայությունը տարածաշրջանում։ Այս մասին գրել է քաղաքագետ Սերգեյ Մելքոնյանը:

Ըստ նրա՝ ընտրությունը պարզ է.

 «1. Ռուս խաղաղապահները երաշխավորում են եռակողմ հայտարարության կատարումը և խաղաղեցնում ագրեսորին։ Այդ դեպքում կարելի է պահպանել ստատուս քվոն։ 

2. Պատերազմը ՝ խաղաղապահների պատասխանատվության գոտում տեղի կունենա նրանց պասիվ հետևելու պայմաններում։ Այդ դեպքում այլևս անհրաժեշտություն չի լինի խոսել Մոսկվայի՝ որպես անվտանգության բացառիկ երաշխավորի դերի մասին։ 

Եթե Մոսկվայի երաշխիքներն այդպես են աշխատում Արցախում, ապա նույն կերպ նաև կաշխատեն Հայաստանի վրա հարձակվելու դեպքում»,-գրել է Մելքոնյանը։
