Ռուսաստանը ցանկանում է վերահսկել այն տարածքները, որոնց պատկանելությունը ամրագրված է Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության Սահմանադրությամբ։ Այս մասին The New York Times-ին տված հարցազրույցում ասել է ՌԴ նախագահի մամուլի քարտուղար Դմիտրի Պեսկովը, տեղեկացնում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը։

«Ոչ,- ասել է նա՝ ի պատասխան լրագրողի այն հարցին, թե արդյո՞ք Ռուսաստանը պատրաստվում է միավորել Ուկրաինայի լրացուցիչ տարածքները։-  Մենք պարզապես ցանկանում ենք վերահսկել բոլոր այն տարածքները, որոնք ներկայումս մեր սահմանադրության մեջ գրված են որպես մերը»:

Հոկտեմբերի 4-ին ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը ստորագրել է օրենքներ՝ Ուկրաինայի Դոնեցկի, Լուգանսկի, Զապորոժիեի և Խերսոնի մարզերը Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության կազմում ընդունելու մասին համաձայնագրերը վավերացնելու մասին։
