Միջերկրական ծովով Եվրոպա ձգտող փախստական եւ միգրանտ երեխաներն աննկարագրելի տառապանքներ են կրում եւ բռնության ենթարկվում: Նրանցից շատերը շահագործվում են, սեռական բռնության ենթարկվում, ապօրիաբար ձերբակալվում: Այս մասին ասված է ՄԱԿ-ի Մանկական հիմնադրամի (ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ) նոր զեկույցում:

Այս առումով երեխաների նկատմամբ ամենամեծ թվով հանցագործությունները կատարում են Լիբիայում, որտեղից փախստականները փորձում են հասնել Իտալիա:

Հարցված փախստական եւ միգրանտ երեխաների երեք քառորդը պատմել է, որ վտանգավոր ճանապարհի ընթացքում բռնության եւ ագրեսիայի է ենթարկվել մեծահասակների կողմից: Իսկ կանանց եւ աղջիկների գրեթե կեսը նշել է սեռական բռնության ենթարկվելու մասին: Հաճախ մաքսանենգները պահանջում են Եվրոպա փոխադրելու համար սեքսով վճարել:

Անցյալ տարի Միջերկրական ծովը հատելու փորձի ժամանակ 4579 մարդ է զոհվել: Ենթադրվում է, որ զոհվածներից առնվազն 700-ը երեխաներ են:
